When dealing with time-related data, we usually use the filtering function, but if there is a lot of data, it is a little troublesome to operate. The function of the calendar is to enrich the time processing method, especially in the pivot table. Although this method is not very popular, it is really intuitive and convenient to use.

The following examples are all tested in Excel 2016, please feel free to use them.

First look at this set of data:

1. We first create a pivot table for data analysis

Select the date cells, click the Insert tab, and select PivotTable.

In the Create PivotTable dialog box that pops up, select New Worksheet, and then OK.

In the pivot table, check Date and Amount ( month is automatically checked). After checking, in the table on the left, the sum will be automatically performed by month.

2. Create a schedule

First cancel the monthly summation automatically set by the system. Select the cells of a month, right-click to ungroup.

The effect after ungrouping is like this, that is, it is displayed directly by date.

Select any date cell in the Row tab, click the Analysis tab, and insert a schedule.

In the pop-up dialog box, tick the date, and then OK.

The creation of this schedule is complete.

3. Use the calendar to take time operation to the next level

If we only want to display the data of a certain month, just click on the blue bar below that month.

For example, if we click on September, we can see that the pivot table on the left only displays the daily summary data for September.

We can also drag the left or right side of the blue bar to select multiple adjacent months. For example, to select September and October, drag the right side of the blue bar to October.

In addition, the calendar can be displayed not only by month summary, there are other options. Select the schedule , click the down arrow to the right of the month in the upper right corner, you can see that there are 4 options: year, quarter, month, day.

For example, after we select a quarter, click on the third quarter in the blue bar to display the aggregated data from July to September.
