According to a report by South Korean media TheElec on July 26, industry insiders revealed that TCL Group, the parent company of CSOT Optoelectronics. Chairman Li Dongsheng will visit Apple in the near future, trying to grab Apple's panel supply chain, which may threaten the current supply position of LGD and BOE.
The report pointed out that Li Dongsheng plans to visit JOLED in Japan after meeting with domestic panel equipment manufacturers and Samsung Electronics this week, and then visit Apple in the United States. Industry insiders speculate that Li Dongsheng’s goal of visiting Apple this time is to obtain orders for LCD panels such as Apple’s MacBook or iPad.
CSOT is currently actively competing with BOE, CSOT has certain competitiveness in TV panels, and BOE is currently one of the main suppliers of Apple MacBook and iPad.
Research firm Omdia predicts that BOE ranks third in the market share of Apple's MacBook panels this year, and ranks first in iPad panel shipments. Industry insiders pointed out that CSOT is trying to increase the market share of IT products, and in order to enter the Apple iPhone OLED supply chain, a production team was established in the first half of this year.
CSOT's move has threatened the current supply position of LGD and BOE. Industry insiders believe that with the increase of competitors, the intensity of panel price competition may increase, which may threaten the current supply unit price.
